I think I've read every one of Ross Macdonald's Lew Archer books, all of which are worth reading. But I really enjoyed The Dark Tunnel, which was a slightly different type of story set on the American homefront during WWII. Great story and well written. He wrote this one under his actual name Kenneth Millar.
